SUPER mum Anna Moir is gearing up to run the London Marathon for CAFOD.
Anna, 38, who teaches English at All Hallows Catholic High School in Preston, is half way through her 14 week training programme ahead of the big day on 25th April.
And the mother of three owes her challenge to a chance meeting with Lancaster CAFOD diocesan manager Rosa Trelfa.
The two met at a Preston North End match earlier this season.
Anna explains: “Rosa was supporting the Great North Run and I mentioned to her that I wanted to run a marathon before I was 40. So it went on from there.”
CAFOD supporter Anna is juggling her hectic training schedule between teaching and looking after her children.
Running up and down the Darwen Moors, jogging through snow drifts and on the ice, Anna has experienced some tough conditions.
“It takes your life over,” she said.
“It’s very difficult to fit in around teaching and looking after the kids. At home I have a family calendar and a running calendar so I’ve had to prioritise things.”
“I have a very supportive husband in Frazer. He’s been brilliant.
“I just have to fit in training around family life. So on Saturday mornings I go hill training in Avenham Park while my daughters are at ballet class.”
Anna, who has experience of running four half marathons, is keen to raise at least £2,500 for CAFOD.
“My school has been involved with CAFOD on a number of occasions so I have come to know and admire the work they do for the developing world.
“In the current recession with trade faltering, the impact on the poorest has been devastating – they need our help more than ever.”
Anna is hoping to run the London Marathon in 3hrs 45m, depending on weather conditions.
