When we decided to pray the Novena for the Birth of a New Nation – South Sudan, we contacted our staff in Sudan to tell them we were thinking and praying for them as they marked this historic moment.
The CAFOD office in Juba closed for 9th July 2011 to celebrate the momentous occasion, calling it ‘a time of hope for the people of both Sudan (North Sudan) and South Sudan’.
Vincent, our country representative in Sudan, responded to our message by saying: “Thank-you for your thoughts and prayers. They are appreciated by the team here, and our solidarity is recognised and valued by the Sudanese Church.”
The people of Sudan were firmly in our thoughts and prayers at our last monthly prayer meeting and we continue to hold them in prayer at our next gathering:
We will continue the Novena for Sudan on Thursday, 15th September, starting at 11am at the presbytery of St Anthony of Padua’s Catholic Church in Fulwood, Preston. Do join us if you can.
The poster, and further details, for the meeting can be downloaded here: CafodPrayerMeeting-posSept
After our prayer, we share lunch. Please bring a little food to share. A good cup of tea is guaranteed!
Our thanks to the community at St Anthony’s for their continued warm welcome and hospitality.
