Join us as we walk for CAFOD over Wyre:
an event organised by St John’s Parish in Poulton-le-Fylde.
Families welcome – there’ll be plenty of good company, come rain or shine!
It takes relatively little to lend a hand and give a family overseas the lift they need to move towards a better future.
Here we have the basics readily available: a good education, reliable healthcare, the opportuunity to earn a living. These basics are often denied to families overseas because something simple will obstruct the way forward eg children cannot go to school if a family cannot afford to let them go. So enabling a family to earn a living can lessen the obstruction and strengthen a positive way forward – but it can do so respecting the dignity of the individuals to work themselves out of a situation they’d rather not be in.
In walking this walk, we’ll not only expressing our solidarity with parents overseas who, like us, simply want the best for their families, we’ll be expressing it in a very practical way. And one which reflects our faith. If we can play a small part in enabling others to live life to the full then our experience of faith blossoms and the Holy Spirit starts to move.
Here’s a simple example – with £100 CAFOD can provide a family with a cow. A cow is four gifts in one for a struggling family. Its manure can help grow crops, its milk can supplement a family’s diet, plus any extra milk can be sold at market. What’s more, any calves can be passed on to help another family. Alongside the locally-sourced cow, CAFOD also provides its jabs and training for the family so that they can look after it correctly.
Why don’t you join our walk? We hope you can!
