Did you know? (17)

Did you know……over 35 million people live with HIV? Over 19m don’t know they have the virus.

This week, CAFOD attended the 20th International AIDS Conference in Melbourne, Australia. CAFOD’s HIV Manager Georgia Burford presented to the conference our work on stigma:

“Attitudes and behaviours need to shift. That’s where the faith community and faith organisations must be – at the heart of the issue, tackling stigma and discrimination, reducing new infections and reducing AIDS-related deaths.”

CAFOD partners support faith leaders in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Zambia to reduce the stigma in their communities, having a positive effect on people’s lives.

We provide a weekly ‘CAFOD fact’ as a short ‘Did You Know?’ to parishes across the Lancaster Diocese, which they print in their parish newsletters. If you would be interested in receiving this weekly email, let us know at CAFOD Lancaster and we’ll send it directly to you too – email: lancaster@cafod.org.uk
