Did you know? (36)

Did you know…… in Brazil CAFOD is using sport to break the cycle of violence, drugs and unemployment which affect many families? In the community of Peinxinhos, many young people are from rival gangs and drug trafficking is rife so we have built in ‘conversation circles’ before and after football games to debate issues such as drugs, respect and friendship. The result? Strengthened trust, team work, ambition and a good work ethic through physical exercise, offering hope and alternative ways forward. Your support of CAFOD has helped to bring stability and peace here. Thank you. A peaceful and happy Christmas to you all.

Rodrigo and his friends are able to escape violence in their community by playing football with Growing Towards Peace in Brazil.

We provide a weekly ‘CAFOD fact’ as a short ‘Did You Know?’ to parishes across the Lancaster Diocese, which they print in their parish newsletters. If you would be interested in receiving this weekly email, let us know at CAFOD Lancaster and we’ll send it directly to you too – email: lancaster@cafod.org.uk
